Determine the benefits for Ireland of a national landcover and habitat mapping
programme through its contribution to national and international environmental
policy and legal obligations:
1. Research and write-up 6 use case studies for a national landcover and
habitat mapping programme on: 1) agriculture and food production, 2) flood risk
management , 3) landuse planning, 4) air quality, 5) climate change
mitigation/adaptation, and 6) biodiversity applications.
2. Determine the economic value of a national landcover and habitat mapping
programme and its contribution to competitiveness, and innovation in Ireland
within the context of the Economic Assessment of the Geospatial Industry in
Ireland carried out for OSi in 2013;
3. Determine the risks and benefits associated both with maintaining the status
quo and with progressing the programme;
4. Develop a clear suite of recommendations based on the findings for
consideration by the Working Group.
