Upgrading Heat Sources in Blocks 1 and 2


The Royal United Hospital, Bath is a 650 bed district general hospital serving a population of 500,000. It is based on a 53 acre site in the Combe Park area of Bath. The Estate is made up of 64 separate blocks that range in age from the 1700?s up to the present date.


The Trust requires that a new heat source serving both heating and DHW is provided for Blocks 1 and 2. Blocks 1 and 2 are accommodation blocks. This will be a total of 3 units.

Technical requirements

There will be a requirement for a mini CHP plant to be installed in each block this should include the split header and buffer vessel as per manufacturer?s instructions.

There will be a requirement for TWO gas meters to be installed in each plant room, one serving the CHP and one covering the rest of the building.

A pressurisation unit will be required to provide the ?head? for the DHW system.

A water softener will be required for each plant room.

Grundfoss variable speed pumps are required to provide all temperature and flow
regulation these should be fitted with the Gem module.

The Trust will require that a new domestic hot water storage calorifier is fitted in each
plant room.

There will be a requirement for rationalization of pipe work in each plant room.

The Trust requires that any interested parties carry out a full survey and site visit prior to
tendering for the works.

All electrical and controls to be done by others.
