With a National Service Framework target of all people with diabetes being offered a structured education course by 2013, there is a requirement to expand the current programme currently being offered within South Birmingham. The aim is to increase activity to a minimum of 1500 patients per year, every year for the next 3 years being offered an appropriate structured education course across South Birmingham The key objectives of the NHS South Birmingham Procurement are: 1. to ensure that people with diabetes are empowered to enhance their personal control over the day to day management of their diabetes in a way that enables them to experience the best possible quality of life; 2. Will receive a service which encourages partnership and decision making. The service provider will be expected to deliver a structured education programme to a minimum of 750 patients and a maximum of 1500 patients with diabetes type 2 per year, across the following PCT localities: Selly Oak Locality Edgbaston Locality Northfield Locality
