Installation of Containment and SWA Communication Cables in Underground Tunnel


The Royal United Hospital, Bath is a 650 bed district general hospital serving a population of 500,000. It is based on a 53 acre site in the Combe Park area of Bath. The Estate is made up of 64 separate blocks that range in age from the 1700?s up to the present date.


There is a need to install some additional containment within the hospitals series of underground tunnels and service ducts. The outline scope is to install:

1: 3 No separate runs of 150mm cable tray on the underside of the tunnel slab; the trays are to either run along side each other or to be tiered on suitable bracketry.

2: Install 4No 20 Pair SWA cables between the Boiler House and the site Telephone Exchange.

Please be aware that as the hospitals heating and steam pipes run in these tunnels and ducts, therefore the ambient temperature in this area is quite high.
