The Department of Environment (DOE) working in partnership with the Scottish and Northern Ireland Forum for Environmental Research (SNIFFER) commissioned the "Preparing for a Changing Climate in Northern Ireland" report. The report was produced in January 2007 and one of its key recommendations was the establishment of a Northern Ireland Climate Changes Impacts Partnership (NICCIP). The Partnership was duly formed in June 2007 and consists of representatives from central and local government, the business community, the voluntary sector and professional organisations. At present there are three tiers of membership:
Tier 1 members act as a steering group, meeting on a quarterly basis to discuss key issues.
Tier 2 members are organisations, both public and private sector, who receive regular mail updates, and are kept involved in key climate change events and policy hubs.
Tier 3 members are general members of the public who receive quarterly NICCIP newsletters and other important mail updates.
The contract is for the appointment of a Northern Ireland adaptation support service to Climate NI. The service should provide for core evidence dissemination, knowledge transfer, outreach and capacity building as well as advice, support & secretariat functions.
