The Forest Service requirement is for areas clearfelled of trees to be replanted at a stocking density of 2,500 to 2,800 trees per net hectare. Soil types will vary ranging from peat to brown earths. Planting may be carried out with a single species of tree or a mixture of different species dependant on site. Replanting may also be required on sites where tree mortalities have occurred as a result of fire damage.
There will also be a requirement to beat up sites where tree mortalities have occurred. The mortalities may be caused by a wide variety of reasons but will be mainly as a result of insect damage, drought or fire damage.
